Yesterday Broccoli held a conference at UDX in Akiba to announce the new AKIHABARA GAMERS (AKIHABARAゲーマーズ本店) shop that will be opened during 2008.
As stated in this official PDF the new shop will be located between Medialand and the actual Gamers shop in akiba. The old building has been torn down few months ago and recently that corner has been used for street promotions like the Red Bull free giveaway held recently...

Today One Seg TV Segnity is finally on sale in Akiba ( One Seg refers to terrestrial digital TV broadcasts aimed at mobile devices).  This portable Digital TV has been presented in January by the giant toy maker Takara Tomy Co. during the Toy Forum 2007.
What makes this product special is the fact that this device features a "tsundere voice system". Tsundere (ツンデレ, Tsundere) is a Japanese term for a personality that is initially combative, but becomes loving and emotionally vulnerable. When you first turn on Segnity you will be welcome with a tsun tsun (cold) voice message: 'Gonna watch some TV, huh?'  When the brightness is lowered, a cold voice says, "This is daaark!".
After you use the device more times the voice becomes gradually attached to you and start to be kind and warm and, for example, switching off Segnity prompts the phrase: “What?! Are you really going away?” as if the Segnity is sad that the you are leaving. There are 33 different voice samples and on October 28 will be realeased a software that will let you customize the voices auploading you favourite tsundere anime character voice trought the Mini SD card slot.

Yesterday more than 15.000 people attended the Akihabara speech of Taro Sato (left in the photo), Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs and possible successor to Prime Minister Abe Shinzo who had announced his plans to resign. Taro is a geek and loves manga so much that after Abe announced resignation shares of several manga publishers have rised significantly since he could be elected as new Prime Minister next 23th september. According to CNN Money,  Broccoli, which runs a string of retail stores catering to gamers and publishes comic books, rocketed 71 percent to close at ¥157. Today I want to introduce a japanese online shop held by a friend. What I like of this shop is that it gives the nearest Akihabara feeeling when I'm not in Japan: the game selection is great and here I can buy arcade games and Akibakei goods at reasonable prices (I hate  online shops that sell common games like NEOGEO  Fatal Fury Special AES  with a markup of 400/500% of akiba street price)...

Domani è il grande giorno: insieme a Danny (dannychoo.com) andremo all'evento di presentazione del DVD "LOVE POTION" di Amano Ai ad Akihabara. Dopo il Natsucomi e il Wonfes questo è l'evento dell'estate che aspettavamo! Doki doki dayo!

La "nostra"  idol Amano Ai (apparsa varie volte nella riviste Hobbymedia:  Gamers, GX e XRC CARS) ha appena prodotto il suo primo DVD intitolato LOVE POTION e sabato, presso due negozi di Akihabara, presenzierà due eventi live  in cui incontrerà i suoi fan. Uno dei due eventi é già sol d out con oltre 200 prenotazioni!!
Tutta la redazione augura ad Ai Chan buona fortuna per questo primo DVD (in vendita anche nel famoso shop online  Play Asia).
 

I nostri amici di Heisei Democracy hanno appena postato il quarto episodio di HDTV dedicato ad Akihabara: la terra promessa per ogni otaku!

Nonami Takizawa  è una gravure idol con delle curve poco giapponesi apparsa anche del drama Akihabara@deep ispirato all'omonimo manga (qui sul tubo potete seguire quasi tutta la serie sottotitolata in inglese).

Come avevamo segnalato il 30 giugno ad Akihabara si è tenuta una manifestazione di otaku. La partecipazione è stata superiore al previsto con varie centinaia di cosplayer, videogiocatori, otaku  modellisti comunisti e alieni che protestavano per la difesa di Akihabara e richiedevano cose come l'abbassamento delle tasse per i doujinshi e nuove sovvenzioni per la produzione del PVC (ovviamente utilizzato per le stauette e i toys acquistati dagli otaku).
Gli amici di Heisei Democracy hanno postato un reportage completo della manifestazione con un breve video.
La cosa che ci domandiamo è: vedremo mai manifestazioni simili per difendere i videogiochi come Manhunt 2 o Operazione Pretofilia?!

Dalla nostra rete di informatori di strada abbiamo ricevuto la notizia che il 30 giugno si terrà una manifestazione di otaku ad Akihabara. Si tratta del primo evento di questo genere a cui sono chiamati a partecipare "otaku e cosplayer di ogni credo e religione, modellisti comunisti e alieni"!

Ecco il nuovo eroe della redazione di Gamers: si tratta di Vending Machine Reddo!!!
Da quanto riportato da Akiba Blog sembra che il nostro eroe (o forse dovremmo chiamarlo super guerrilla marketer) abbia partecipato anche a uno degli street happening dedicati al ballo delle sigla dell'anime Haruhi Suzumiya (famosissimo tormentone memetico di YouTube partito un anno fa) di cui la nostra interpretazione preferita è questa.

Windows XP , lettore Compact Flash, porte USB, uscita VGA,  LEDs segnalatori al posto dei pulsanti A e B:  a questo GameBoy non manca proprio nulla (se non uno schermo LCD a colori)!!

Ad Akihabara i nuovi negozi  nascono come funghi, ma è la prima volta  che vediamo aprire un negozio specializzato in occhiali.
In Giappone, specialmente fra gli otaku, esiste una particolare forma di feticismo  per le ragazze e i ragazzi con gli occhiali ("megane" in giapponese).
