This isn't a big problem in terms of code — the two files from libarc used are under 1500 lines put together, and one is a heavily-edited copy of inflate.c from zlib, which is public domain. But, it's a GPL violation, and they need to fix it...

Volks has announced three new Figure doll of Mitsurugi Meiya, Tamase Miki and Yashiro Kasumi three of the most loved characters of MUV LUV: the legendary eroge saga from Age soft. I love Age soft videogames because I Yoshida san, the president of Age Soft,  is also the author of all the game s stories and this guarantees a great quality. Several times Yoshida  pushed back the relase dates just because he always wants to improve the quality of the games  and this upsets many shop chains/distributors, but  at the end all his games are masterpieces so eroge fans are never turn down even if the must wait 4-5 months after the expected release date!







 

Today Success has released Izuna 2 for DS (the second chapter of the Rpg dungeon crawler know in USA as Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja). Gamers who will buy this title in the Japanese shop  Sofmap will get this box sexy box that looks exacltly like the package of PC eroge (Hentai videogames).



Today Akiba Blog spotted in Sofmap a really interesting "plastic oppai" promotion for a new eroge from Marine (NSFW). You can  download a trial version of this game (released on 21 December) from these mirrors: Holyseal,  mirror.fuzzy2.com,  Mirror D-Station or Xgame Electronic Station.

I think this is an example of what happens when a Japanese modeller has too much time on his hands (probably because the new gunpla kits from Gundam 00 are not so much interesting)... (via Retrothing/ Kenbakit) John Blankenbaker's KENBAK-1 was the first PC available on the market and it has just been re-released as a $999 KENBAK-1 Series 2 reproduction. This cool Star Trek-inspired machine was announced in the September 1971 issue of Scientific American, with a price tag of "only" $750...


KENBAK-1was designed before the microprocessor revolution, so the system logic was built around small and medium scale ICs. MOS shift registers provided a mere 256 bytes of memory. Just like i nthe original Star Trek the front panel featured a row of incandescent blinky lights instead of LEDs: pure retro hardware porno!! There are less than ten kits still available, so this is way more difficult to get than a Wii...


The above picture was made by placing a reproduction Kenbak-1 Series 2 PCB on top of the vintage Kenbak-1 PCB and shining a light at them.  The light passing through the holes proves that the reproduction PCBs are very accurate, down to the placement of holes!  The replica board is identical except for the text "Homebrew 2007" and "http://www.kenbakkit.com".  This is to help with counterfeit units.

The doujin circle Yoshiba Works ( from Miku Blaster fame) has just released a new game dedicated to Vocaloid 2 Miku chan. It runs on PC but got a 100% retro famicom style. Even the sountrack sounds pure 8 bit and I'm sure the (retro)game music fans will like it. I love the package designe parody of the original Vocaloid 2 box.

Akiba Hobby has posted a reportage of Hobby Complex: a new japanese event dedicated to garage kit and toys. Our favourite work is  this litle NICE BOAT diorama. Seems that this meme is still resonating in the Japaense otakudom and our old friend from Gunma Peter Payne (Wired interview here) has just added this NICE BOAT T-shirt to his otakuish sline of T-shirts that you can find on J-BOX.




 

First real feature of DOWNGRADING X360 came out in the last days, is the possibility with Infectus to Uunbann the CONSOLE X360 from Live. All the features are the same of D2CKEY, but this modchip will be UPDATABLE! ARGON have on PCB a little connector with a flat cable that the user can install outside console. When is necessary an UPDATE all who have an INFECTUS or in the future with a little esterna programmer all can reprogramm their modchips.

When I found this photo I tought it was one of the old Forza Motorsport 2 custom cars created by Japanese gamers. Instead Aoshima decided to produce a 1/24 scale reproduction of an FD3S RX-7  with an itasha customization  dedicated to Haruhi Suzumia. This car is the first model of the new Itasha Plamodel Series and will debut in January.
 
(Geek note: itasha customization trend has been featured for the first time by our otaku photographer Julie  in her  photobook Samurai Girl published at the beginning of last year way before japanese magazines recognised this phenomen). 

(via Gilcrows) Today Mikku Man X, a platform doujin mashup of Rockman and Miku chan, has been released.  This doujin game is pretty fun (among the enemies there is even Morrigan!) with a solid gamplay and great soundtrack (no Vocaloid 2 songs but a great arrangement of the original Rockman theme).
You can download the file here (but be patient since the server is overloaded with requests and it's not easy to download the zip).

(via 2ch) Next week NHK BS2 will start  a The Net Star: new show (11月27日（火）22：30〜23：10) dedicated to internet memes that usually pass under the radar of TV shows... I hope they will do more that show videos from NicoNico but The Net Star will hosted, among the other, by the super loli gravure idol Kyan Chiaki (official page / blog) and by the meganekko godness Ami Tokito (official page / blog).

Matteo Bittanti, Videoludica mastermind (or maybe we should call him academic videogame guru?), pointed us to Impact of the Commodore 64: A 25th Anniversary Celebration:  a retrocomputing event that will be held in Mountain View at the Computer History Museum on 10 December and will features legends like Jack Tramiel,  Adam Chowaniec and the psychedelic computer God Steve Wozniak.

Our The Commodore 64 (C64) was an 8-bit home computer released by Commodore in August, 1982, and during it's lifetime (between 1982 and 1994), sales totaled tens of millions of units, making it one the best-selling single personal computer model of all time. Approximately 10,000 commercial software titles were developed for the Commodore 64 including development tools, office applications, and games.

Early entrants of micro computers began as early as 1975, with the first models available in retail stores around 1977. In 1981, The IBM PC release legitimized and expanded the market. During this era of microcomputer innovation, the market was dominated by the IBM PC, the Commodore 64, the Atari 8-bit family, the Apple II, and Tandy Corporation's TRS-80.

There is just a month till next Comiket so doujin world is starting to fight for visibility and releasing "major" doujing manga before the event seems a technic to attract more customers at its own circle table during Comic Market (コミックマーケット).

A Japanese gamer has scanned the Famitsu cross reviews of the original Dragon Quest IV for Famicom and the Playstation and DS ports. The DS version has been released yesterday and seems that Akiba went crazy for it!

Few days ago we posted a Miku (Vocaloid 2) mugen video. And finally the Miku character data for Mugen has been released!! (Wiki) Mugen is a freeware 2D PC fighting game engine designed by Elecbyte, written in C with the Allegro library. The engine was originally released in July 17 1999 and allows anyone to create characters, background stages and other game objects through interpreted text files, graphics, and sound compilations. It supports various types of audio formats and allows for most of the same type of functionality found in most any commercial 2D fighting games, up to and including close recreation of those games' characters and gameplay.

Today watching this Miku Chan video (control Vocaloid 2 trough the Miku Theremin seems great!) I discovered Keromin:  an eclectic electronic musical instrument in the shape of a frog puppet. Kero in its name is an onomatopoeia for song of a frog in Japanese (like in the anime Keroro Gunsho). Min is after "Theremin" by which Ithe japanese creator pays homage to the world's first electronic instrument created by Russian inventor Léon Theremin in 1919.
In playing the Keromin, the pitch is controlled with the angle between the thumb and other fingers which manipulate the puppet's mouth. The sounds programmed are those of instruments for orchestra and real frog songs as well as sampled human voice saying "kero-kero."


Like a Theremin, the pitch changes according to continuous movements--the opening of the puppet's mouth. It is, however, easier to play than a Theremin because the movements are converted into sounds in accordance with musical scales automatically.

And if the Miku Theremin and Keromin are not enough there is always Matryomin: the Matrioska Theremin invented by Masami Takeuchi in 1999 (via Gizmodo/Trend in Japan) and produced by Mandarin Electron (video here)....

This doc has been shooted during last Comiket (actually I was in the press room when they were trying to obtain a press pass and I happy to say that Comiket organizers are really concerned about Comikers privacy and for TV crews is not easy at all to shoot during Comik Market). (via Danny Choo) The manga Sundome (すんドめ), created by Kazuto Okata and published by Akita Shoten, makes it to the big screen with the gravure idol Akane Suzuki as the main character.  Hideo Aiba (Atsuji Ninomiya) is a reserved and obedient high school student who spends all his energy on masturbating. When a new student, the super sexy Kurumi Sahana (Akane Suzuki), joins the same after-school club in which he is a member. Now I wait for a midnight drama adaptation so we can contemplate  "better" Akane chan!!

As past editions, many superstar designers will collaborate with Furi Furi to make this charity as success (Devil Robots, Jeremyville,TokiDoki, Buro Destruct, etc.)  
Toy Saves Children will be part of group exhibition Utterubbish held during the Singapore Design Festival.

This new immigration procedure is pretty annoying but the good side is that foreign business man and (non otaku) tourists will think double before going to Japan. Of course gaijin otaku travelling offr their pilgrimage to Akihabara will not bothered at all as the procedure resembles something from sci-fi mangas and anime...  so if you are taking an airplane to Narita today choose a good T-shirt (no Greenpeace nor human/animal rights defence T-shirts). The safest choice is anything from Cospa even tought complete  costumes could create some problems (I'm curious if they will allow kigurumi or Danny's Star Wars Stormtrooper suit for the photos).
Of course this new immigration system is a joke since foreign yakuzas (that control the Pachinko businees) are already living in Japan and other criminals usually are illegal immigrants that will be even safer since the police will not have their fingerprints nor their photos. Terrorist have always been Japanese since in centuries no gaijin has  committed an act of terrorism in Japan (beside the Yamanote Hallowen Party ^_^)!
Anyway better being scanned than having your DNA registered like in Europe (France and other countries are working on this idea)...
